Jeff Cutler BCSLA, CSLA, Principal 

Jeff is principal and Landscape Architect at space2place. He has over 17 years experience in design, planning, project management, and communication. He is a strong advocate of extending the designers’ role to integrate public consultation, ecology, ethnography and engineering into the design and transformation of public places. 

His design work includes Garden City Play Environment, a playground for children focusing on creative play experiences, the Spirit Trail in North Vancouver, which is an urban bike trail connecting a series of isolated spaces along the waterfront, and UBC Sustainability Street, a public space incorporating green infrastructure.  Each of these projects has been recognized by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects and the Design Exchange for National Design Awards. 

Jeff is always striving to stay on top of innovative means of communication and engagement and has participated in and lead several design facilitation and co-creation workshops for municipalities and organizations.

Jeff has lectured on his work at universities and conferences and was a member of the 2008 jury for the AIBC Lieutenant-Governor General awards.  He is a regular guest critic at the UBC school of Architecture and Landscape Architecture and BCIT.  He was awarded Western Living’s Landscape Architect of the year in 2008.

Alexa Uhrich BCSLA, CSLA, Landscape Architect 

Alexa graduated from the Landscape Architecture program at the University of British Columbia in 1997. She is a registered Landscape Architect and has worked in the profession for 13 years on a diversity of projects. She is skilled at developing conceptual designs that are sensitive to the landscape context and that carefully consider the human scale and experience. She has worked on a variety of project scales from single family residential design to large scale planning projects.

Alexa’s projects at space2place include Garden City Park, the Spirit Trail, and the Blenheim St. Residence.  Additionally, she is actively invloved in business development within the firm.  Alexa brings enthusiasm and innovation to all of her work and enjoys working closely with clients to realize their goals.

Mike Teed-BCSLA,CSLA, Landscape Architect 

Mike has both Masters and Bachelors degrees in Landscape Architecture from University of British Columbia and the University of Guelph. His project management approach involves providing clear direction to the design team, creating workable schedules, establishing quality control systems, and translating concept designs into clear, detailed construction packages. 

Mike excels in finding opportunities through constraints and is able to see the big picture while managing the day-to-day progress of each project. This has resulted in completed projects that exceed his clients’ expectations.

His thesis project at UBC won a student ASLA Honor award for Research in 2007.  He has a strong background in sustainable design and has studied how landscape architecture can play a role in promoting environmental and social stewardship in urban conditions.  He has been with space2place for 6 years and is a registered landscape architect.  

Mike’s projects at space2place include Oppenheimer Park, Bernard Avenue in Kelowna and the Spirit Trail in North Vancouver.  He brings a unique passion for collaborative research and design to his work.

Alison Maddaugh-BFA, MLA, BCSLA Landscape Architect 

Alison integrates her Masters Degree in landscape architecture from UBC with a background in fine arts and further design studies in Sweden and The Netherlands.  Alison brings to the team a unique understanding of outdoor play environments for children, informed by her research work with the CHILD Project, her master’s thesis, her school ground public art installations, and her studies abroad.    

She has over 7 years of experience including 5 years with space2place.  Her projects include the Surrey Nature Centre, the Univercity Child Care, the Fleetwood Community Centre in Surrey and several residential projects. Viewing the project site through the lens of aesthetics and phenomenology, Alison cultivates the experiential qualities of place.

Currently Alison is on Maternity Leave. 

Sarah Rowe-BLA, Project Manager 

Sarah has a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Melbourne and is passionate about creating places of value in the landscape. She has over 6 years experience in the field of landscape architecture in Australia where she worked on a range of projects including the Sha Lo Tung Columbarium in Hong Kong, the Penleigh Essendon Grammar School sports complex and various residential developments in Melbourne. She was also project manager for the Port Hedland Maritime Park in Western Australia and aged care facilities throughout south-eastern Australia. Her experience with working and living in Australia and Asia has influenced how she views the world.

For the last 4 years Sarah has been with space2place and been involved with the Spirit trail in North Vancouver, and Bayly park in Whistler.  She brings a special enthusiasm to her work.Sarah has excellent design, graphic and technical abilities that help a project translate from a loose concept to a finished set of technical drawings and details. 

Sarah Primeau MSc, MLA Landscape Ecologist / Environmental Designer 

Sarah has a Masters degree in Landscape Architecture (University of British Columbia) and a Masters of Ecology (Wetland Ecology, University of Waterloo). Prior to undertaking her masters in landscape architecture she worked in Edmonton and across Alberta with citizen stewardship groups and all levels of government to facilitate a variety of environmental stewardship initiatives. For her landscape architecture graduate project, Sarah designed a regenerative landscape in Richmond, British Columbia, with the goal of helping the city adapt to rising sea-levels while increasing its livability, ecological richness, and island identity. In her final year at UBC Sarah was a finalist for the Olmstead Scholarship, one of the top honours for landscape architecture students in North America.  

Sarah’s expertise lies in bringing ecology and design together, ensuring that open space redevelopment protects and restores ecological processes in a way that supports the human goals for a site. She is skilled at interpreting a site’s ecological patterns and identifying ways to protect and enhance environmentally significant features. She has been a key team member for Kinsmen Park in Saskatoon, the city wide City of Surrey dog off leash strategy and the Matsqui Trail along the Fraser River.  

Phil Wyatt - BA Spatial Design - Landscape Designer 

Phil has predominantly focussed on public space and art as a catalyst for social interaction. Phil graduated in Spatial Design at the Falmouth College of Arts, UK, in 2003. Since graduating he has gained a good base of design skills and technical experience working in the design and building of public art projects and maintains a key focus on meaningful design and construction through good research. 

Somaye Hooshmand BArch, MLA - Landscape Designer 

Somaye is a talented designer and illustrator. She supports the design team with creativity and enthusaism.  She works for us part-time while completing her Masters of Landscape Architecture at UBC. Prior to arriving in Vancouver she obtained her Masters in Landscape Architecture from Shahid Beheshti University and a Bachelor of Architecture from Sahid Rajaee University in Tehran. 

Crystal Lindstorm-Office Manager 

Crystal brings over 13 years of experience in office adminstration to space2place. She provides internal administrative support, and records management.
