Site: The landscape surrounds a
longhouse which is a major component of the
program for the Museum of Northern British Columbia. The
site is in the City of Prince Rupert and a large portion is undisturbed
native landscape. There is a tall bluff along the north side of
the site over looking the harbour.
Problem Statement:
Create distinct outdoor spaces surrounding the longhouse to enhance the
program of the museum. Additionally, public saftey issues must be
addressed along the edge of the blufff and wheelchair access to the
entry must integrate into the design solution.
Design Solution: A
series of spaces are developed to serve different needs of the
museum. These include a gathering space, story telling circle and
a woodland garden. Local materials are utilized for construction
to ensure the landscape maintains its spirit of place.
