Metro Skate Park


  

Site: The Metro Skate Park is located in the City of Burnaby in Bonsor Park near Metrotown. The site is located between the Royal Oak and Metrotown skytrain stations and near an existing recreation facility. Space2place was contracted to design this facility with Spectrum Skatepark Creations as subconsultant.   The park is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in August 2004.

Problem Statement: To create a well rounded youth park that serves all abilities, young girls and integrates well with the site.

Design Solution: The park is divided into 3 distinct zones - Metro Square, Bonsor Pipeline and Dogleg Bowl.  These zones were developed in response to input received in a series of design workshops. (click for workshop images).  The park includes a  "real" street area with plaza detailing and a bowl with fullpipe and pool coping.   (click for park tour).  The park also features “hangout” locations,  shade structures, a viewing platform, playground, drinking fountains, and pathways.
