Site:
Stores Road on
the UBC Campus. This connects Main Mall with West Mall and will become
a prominent pedestrian and service route on Campus.
Problem Statement:
To implement a working model of public realm sustainable design and to
showcase sustainable design initiatives at UBC. This will lay a solid
foundation for the broader mandate to build a valuable demonstration
project that can inform and inspire design elsewhere on campus, in the
city of Vancouver, and beyond.
Design Solution:
Space2place undertook a thorough analysis of the existing site
conditions. These were then carefully matched to the program elements
proposed for the site. The resulting design simplifies the navigation
throught the space to provide enhance the public realm on campus. The
South side of the site serves as the green infrastructure filtering the
stormwater and providing habitat. The north side of the street serves
as the social side of the street, providing opportunities of education,
public gathering and communication.
