Pandora is an
existing park in East Vancouver that has existed for almost 100 years.
The park is in a state of disrepair and the local community submitted a
proposal to the Vancouver Parks Board to upgrade the park.
Problem Statement: To design
a visually unique park design that enhances play opportunities and fits
withing the existing park context.
Design Solution:
A masterplan was prepared to identify the areas in the park where the
limited budget would have the most impact. It was decided to focus the
park upgrade in the centre of the park, redesigning the children’s play
equipment and the Garden Drive greenway.
A
dynamic curving pathway was added to create a unique aesthetic and
develop unique spaces in a linear corridor. This allowed the play
spaces to be integrated to help eliminate barriers in the park.
