Our team comes from varied backgrounds of design, planning and construction respectively. This foundation combined with our hands on approach enables us to add value to every project.

Jeffery Cutler - BCSLA, CSLA, Principal, Landscape Architect

Jeff is principal and creative director at space2place. He has over 13 years experience in design, project management, graphic representation, and multi-media development and has been involved in a wide range of local and international projects including award winning urban master plans, large institutional and public projects, and several residential projects featured in prominent garden magazines. His skill at design across scales will ensure that local policies and public input translate into well formed urban environments that give close consideration to the human scale. Jeff will be responsible for the day to day contact and coordination with the team and the committee. He will work directly on the conceptual and design development for the project as well as coordinating all other phases of work.

Alexa Uhrich BCSLA, CSLA, Landscape Architect

Alexa is a registered Landscape Architect and has worked in the profession for 10 years on numerous projects of varying scales. While at Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg, she had the opportunity to work on a large variety of projects ranging in scale from single family residential design to large scale planning projects. Some of her work at PFS included Steveston Community Park in Richmond BC, the Bayshore Hotel and Escala Residences in Coal Harbour, the Parliamentary Precinct Plan in Ottawa, and the Huangdao Cultural Precinct Urban Design Study in Qingdao China.

Mina Lee - BLA, Intern Landscape Designer

Mina has over 4 years experience in the fields of Landscape Architecture and Engineering. She takes a creative approach to designs for playgrounds, water gardens and urban infrastructure, employing advanced computer technologies including AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, and 3D MAX.

Mike Teed - BLA, MLA, BCSLA Intern

Mike has degrees in Landscape Architecture from UBC and the University of Guelph. He has a strong background in sustainable design and has studied how landscape architecture can play a role in promoting environmental and social stewardship in urban conditions. He brings a unique passion for collaborative research and design to his work.

Layla Pirelahi - MArch, MLA, Urban Designer

Layla has degrees in Architecture and Landscape Architecture from the University of Tehran and UBC, respectively. She has 3 years of experience working in architectural firms in both Iran and Canada. While working in Iran, Layla was involved in the restoration of Chalabi-Oglu monastery. She also worked with the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at the University of Tehran on a project that involved generating tourism destinations for Kohgilooye and Boyerahmad province in Iran. She has also worked on numerous residential projects. Layla has exceptional hand and computer graphic abilities and is proficient with AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, and 3D MAX.

Jamie Vala - BSc, MLA, Landscape Ecologist

Jamie has degrees in Ecology and Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia.  She has over eight years of experience researching biodiversity issues in Canada and in Italy.  She has co-authored a book on urban biodiversity issues and has undertaken a comprehensive investigation of the possibilities for and value of ecological corridors within Metro Vancouver.  Jamie is dedicated to working on projects that act to increase the overall health and sustainability of the region for all residents.

Alison Maddaugh - BFA, MLA, Project Designer

Alison brings to the team a unique understanding of outdoor play environments for children, informed by her research work with the CHILD Project, her master’s thesis, her school ground public art installations, and her studies abroad.  She integrates her training in landscape architecture with a background in fine arts and further design studies in Sweden and The Netherlands.  As a Project Designer with Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg and Urban Niche, Alison has expanded her skills in design, working at a range of scales in the production of award-winning projects and high caliber graphics. Viewing the project site through the lens of aesthetics and phenomenology, Alison cultivates the experiential qualities of place.

Kyle Yakimovitch - BFA, BLA, Project Coordinator

Kyle holds degrees in Fine Arts (specializing in multimedia) and Landscape Architecture. His eight years of experience focuses on project management, both on construction sites and in the office coordinating design projects. His experience in project management has seen the successful completion on a wide range of work from large complex residential projects to various commercial, industrial and public projects. Kyle has also worked in municipal government and enjoys the process of communication to ensure all parties are up to date with design and project coordination.

Sarah Rowe - BLA, BCSLA Intern

Sarah has a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Melbourne. She has over 3 years experience in the field of landscape architecture in Australia where she worked on a range of projects including the Sha Lo Tung Columbarium in Hong Kong, the Penleigh Essendon Grammar School sports complex and various residential developments in Melbourne. She was also project manager for the Port Hedland Maritime Park in Western Australia and aged care facilities throughout south-eastern Australia. Sarah is passionate about creating places of value in the landscape..
